A customer of mine upgraded, so I got his old computer. It is a 3.0GHz Pentium 4, with 1GB of RAM, ATI Radeon X700 PCI-E video card, and SPDIF-caplable sound. Oh yeah, and Gigabit Ethernet.

I had to hack my current case a little to make the new motherboard fit. I cut out a whole in the back of the case for the motherboard back plate, as the box already had one built in. I also had to hack the current power supply, since a standard power supply won’t fit in the case. I had to add the P4 connector. It is only a 200W power supply. Who thinks I will burn it up soon? And if anyone has a bigger power supply that is 5×3″ on the back, let me know. I now have (2) 80GB hard drives. The first will be for TV, and the second will be for the videos (DVD rips). I am also upgraded to the news KnoppMyth, R5A30 (.1 or .2??). You can see some pictures on my Gallery. Anyway, I will keep updating this to tell you more.

10:53pm – I’ve just had to add another fan next to the hard drives. They’ve heated up like crazy. So thats even more draw on my 200W power supply. Maybe this is why the NIC wasn’t working…. and my download just finished, so time to install the new version.

Update: Myth box is up and running beautifully. I’ve even gotten another machine as a frontend for the bedroom. Just need a cordless keyboard for that one. In fact, in the living room, and I had an old “learning” remote for an older TV that I re-learned with keys on my infrared keyboard. Anyway, I plan on writing up a complete write up on what I had to do for people with the same troubles as myself.

I am redoing my MythTV box.
