So in the past week, the issue of “guns” has come up with two friends. The first said he would shoot someone in the leg and then hold the gun to him while he called 911, or run to the neighbors and call 911 from there (after shooting him in the leg). My response is shooting him in the leg will only piss him off. The reason this came up was because I said I use hollow points, which, well, leave a huge mess inside, so they don’t get back up. The other friend said the only use for guns (as if it were a “tool”) is to “kill things”. This might be true, but the reason I would be killing them, although I hope I never have the need to, would be to protect myself, or my family. My family (parents, sisters, future wife and children) are my top priority. And I will use all means necessary to protect them. And I would risk my own life for them. I think of the recent shooting that happened at a couple of churches where a gunman was going around killing people in churches, until one lady in the last church pulled out her weapon and put him down (Article). The day I found out about that, the pastor at the church I go to said how he would protect his own family at all costs and if someone tried to hurt his family, he would “tear them limb from limb”. I may not be able to express the way I feel very well, but I do feel strongly about it. Education is the best tool to keep guns safe.
It amazes me that you can “go there” to a place where you would imagine killing someone to protect your family. That you feel so strongly about their safety enough to put yourself in a dangerous situation, if only in your imaginings.
aww thats so sweet, you made me cry
JASON, what about me, I’m your grandma. I’m family. boo hoo.
I’m not sure if Danielle feels to “go there” is a good or bad thing but a passion is rarely a bad thing. Just don’t “dwell there”.
Good thing.
People have fire extinguishers in their homes. Do they go out of their way to cause a fire?
Everyone has a fundamental right to life, liberty, and all that stuff. The right (and responsibility) of self-defense derives from that. If an attacker makes a credible threat, you don’t have the luxury of playing 20 questions to determine just how much he’s going to hurt you. THAT is the reason that Florida Law (and many other states) considers that an individual who is unlawfully inside your residence intends to kill you. Doesn’t matter if he’s looking to borrow sugar, or to toture you. The law says he’s planning to kill you.
Once that’s out of the way, which is more important to you? Your life and that of your family, or some jackass who just broke into your house in the dead of night?
The point of using a gun in self-defense isn’t to kill, or injure, or scare. The point is that you need to end the threat as quickly as possible, to minimize the chance of your injury. That’s why once you’ve made the decision to shoot, you shoot until you run out of bullets, or the assailant stops moving. Ask any cop, and he (or she) will tell you: “When in doubt, empty the mag.”
To that end, my door is alway open for anyone who want’s to try shooting out. Range fees, ammo, and guns are on my.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with owning a gun. If people got better back ground checks and there weren’t unregistered guns on the streets, it wouldn’t be a big deal. Brian owns one and plans to buy another, he keeps in next to the bed in the night stand when we are at home. I dare some a-hole to break into my house. I would probably kick his ass then shoot him.
Then again I am probably a little biased about the whole weapon issue seeing as I have a 9MM on my hip and a M4 and a shotgun in my closet. Oh well.
Please bear in mind that the State of Florida doesn’t require any kind of firearms registration. Technically, any such registry is against the law. Specifically, 18 USC 926(2)(a).
