Who put in the black cartridge??

I went to see one of my customers today to stop in and see how things are doing. Of course, as soon as I get there, everything seems to break down at once. One of the printers was printing horribly. So I checked it out. Looked in the network status page. “Black ink cartridge missing” it said. I checked out the cartridge. I immediately started asking “Who installed this cartridge?” I walked around the office asking everyone. Of course, no one owned up to it officially. When you install an ink cartridge, remove the tape from the head. The one with the little piece of paper that says “Remove.”

I am also now running with 2.5GB of RAM in my desktop. I had to replace some memory in a Dell that I had purchased for it, but Windows was throwing up at random times with it. So I stuck it in my machine. I haven’t had any problems so far. And one of the chips sat on the floor of my truck and slid all over the place in the sand. But it is still working. Of course, memtest86 report all kinds of errors, but in the other chip I had installed. So who knows. Maybe it was something minor. Maybe my system just skips that part of the memory?

OH, and Jessica is learning how to sew now :)

May It Go to a Better Place :'(

I am feeling down. Today I must get rid of the second computer that I owned. It was an AST Advantage! 614. It sported a Pentium, at 100MHz, 8MB of RAM, and a HUGE 850MB hard drive. I had upgraded from a 386/25MHz with 4MB of RAM, and only a 40GB hard drive. I had moved from Windows 3.1 to Windows 95. It even had a 14.4 modem! That was far better than the 1200 baud. I also first got the Internet on this computer. It was from gte.net. Sigh. However, I must haul it off. It will be hard carrying it away. I am contemplating turning it on for one last bootup, but alas, I must let go. For I have moved on. Let us have a moment of silence.

Wow

Wow. I just did 15 minutes on this walking machine that is like a bicycle. I didn’t realize how much of a workout that could be. Either that, or I am way out of shape. I am very sore right now, but I feel good. I need to do that everyday.

Power Outage

The day after I set up my server, the power goes out. I am sitting here during a power outage. I don’t know why the power went out. But as you can see, my server is still running. I’ve split the power for my server to two different UPS’s, and the one supposedly has 270 minutes of run-time left on it. So I am good for a little while. I shouldn’t have to break out the generator. I need another one of these UPS’s… 270 minutes is pretty damn good. That give me quite a bit of lead time to get back and setup a generator if need be.

Success!

Well, I now have my new IBM server up and running. I’ve transfered everything over, users, web, email, MySQL, awstats, etc. I also changed from XMail to Courier-IMAP/Postfix. It took quite a while. I’ve also rewired my closet a bit. The new server is much faster. It’s a single (but dual-ready) Xeon 3.0GHz, with 1GB RAM (for now), and (4) 36GB SCSI 15K in a RAID 5 +1 Hot Spare. I’ve also got the dual power supply, in case one breaks down. Well, I need some sleep now. Hopefully I won’t get too many calls in the morning about email issues (however, if all goes well, there should be none).

Kittens

I want them gone…. shelters say they must be 8 weeks old. Paper won’t put an ad until 8 weeks old. Can’t kill them, because that’s cruelty. It’s a conspiracy. They want you to be stuck with them and are forced the spay/neuter and keep them. Please take them. We can pretend they are 8 weeks old.
